Auditions FAQs

What will the audition process consist of?

The audition process will consist of showcasing technique and learning various short combinations (jazz/lyrical, pom, and hip hop) to be performed. The audition will be followed by a short interview with our captains and coach.

I don't have much experience, can I still audition?

Yes! Dancers, cheerleaders, and gymnasts of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to audition.

What should I wear to auditions?

Please wear form-fitting athletic attire. Hair should be neatly pulled back. Bring jazz shoes or turners if you have them!

What do judges look for at auditions?

In addition to basic technique and performance skills, we look for dancers with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. We look for potential, not necessarily perfection.

Will there be a secondary audition of callbacks?

No.

I have a prior commitment the day of auditions, what should I do?

Interested students should make every effort to attend auditions in person. However, if you are absolutely unable to attend, please reach out to us directly.

Are members of HCDT allowed to be a part of multiple dance groups?

Yes! Both past and present members have been a part of multiple dance groups, including HCDT.

Is being a member of HCDT a big time commitment?

HCDT practices three times a week. The team competes at UDA nationals in January, regionals in February, and dances at all home games during football and basketball season. For more information about HCDT as a time commitment, please contact us directly.

How much does HCDT cost?

Members of HCDT are responsible for paying dues each year. However, we will work with all dancers to ensure that dues don't impact your ability to dance with us. In the past, dues have been around $750. Dues, in addition to fundraising, cover team travel, national registration, costumes, etc.
